Details about Plastic Roads in Chennai, Tamilnadu
As per the instructions given by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister the Chennai corporation have been instructed to lay out plastic roads in various areas in Chennai in coming days and the start up of the project have been launched on 04/01/12 and the initial start up work have been scheduled at Lakshmanan Street in Thiyagarayar Nagar where this street road is being laid with plastic road facility for 7 Meter width and 200 Meters length. In addition to the above project with a budget of 50 crores 118 Bus Transport Roads are to be laid with plastic in their roads. Additionally inner extension roads with a number of 1498 roads are also been to be laid with plastic road with a total of 370km and the total estimated cost of this project would be around 111 crores.
The department has planned to construct these types of roads with 90% mixture of Tar and 10% mixture of Plastic and they expect with this layout there would be no damage up to 7 years for the constructed road lines. To make a note in 2005 the plastic road was laid at Jambulingam street in Nugambakkam is been still been in good condition without any damage is the statement given by the respective department towards the plastic roads project. The Tar mixture factory is located near Thiruneer Malai and the respective department officers have planned to make an official visit to have a study about the mixture preparation of plastic roads.
In order to carry out with the above process the government have decided to collect garbage materials like Carry bags, Tea cups, Thermo coal, Milk cover in different areas. The above collected materials with the help of heavy machinery equipment will be crushed into bits and pieces for 2-3 millimeters and later the mixture will be put into mixture machine and using Black Stone (jalli) it will be mixed and heated and with the above heated mixture the tar mixture of some rate of proportion will be added and these mixture will be used for laying plastic roads and the roads constructed with this facility will have only low maintenance and last long for number of years without any damages.
The inaugration function and theory about the process of plastic roads with its advantage and cost was held as a meeting with different personalities from government at sir Thiyaga Rajar Arangam at T.Nagar on 4/1/12 and the first layout of plastic road at T.Nagar was by Mayor Saidai Duraisamy.
Hope with this facility the wastages can be properly removed from various places in Chennai and can be properly utilized in an efficient manner. Moreover the departments have framed a team to watch over the activities performed towards the project. The main motto would be disposal of wastes; collection of wastes and the respective department have taken the above task as their challenges and soon will come out with their outcome of success towards the project. If the scheme is watched and run properly by respective department then very soon the Chennai city would go clean and green.
