Raanjhanaa: A Romantic Melody Drama

Kundan ( Dhanush ) believes in God and is the son of a Panda. From his childhood days he had a one sided love for Zoya ( Sonam ) , who was a Muslim and daughter of a professor. When in school he used to follow her and hold her hands but used to get slaps while performing the act. Nut Kundan never gave up. Finally Zoya also fell for him. But her family was an orthodox and sent her to Aligarh to get admission in the Jawaharlal Nehru University. There she fell in love with the student leader Jasjeet Singh ( disguised as Akram in the film, Abhay Deol ).
After completing her course Zoya finally returns to her hometown, Varanasi. On her return Kundan asks Zoya for her love but she told him that she is in love with Akram and even requests Kundan to convince her family for the marriage. Kundan convinced her family with ease and the marriage ceremony is soon arranged.
On the marriage day, Kundan finds that Akram is a Hindu thorugh a newspaper and that his real name is Jasjeet. It was Zoya's plan to introduce Jasjeet as Akram as her family was an orthodox Muslim. Kundan told the truth to Zoya's family thereby interrupting her marriage with Jasjeet. When Zoya's marriage was interrupted she tried to commit suicide. Meanwhile Kundan got to know that Jasjeet was beaten by Zoya's family members mercilessly and his parents had taken him back to their own village. To win Zoya's heart Kundan took her to Jasjeet's village where they got to know that he died due to injuries. Kundan blamed himself for the death and forgets to marry Bindiya ( whom he was supposed to marry after the marriage of Zoya and Akram ) due to which his family disowns him.
Kundan after becoming homeless goes to many religious places and volunteers the priests over there in order to shed off his sins. One day, a man advised him to do the right thing in the right way will help him shed off his sins. Motivated by the words, Kundan locates Zoya, in Jawaharlal Nehru University where she spread the poltical party AICP, formed by Jasjeet. In order to get the attention of Zoya Kundan joins the nearby canteen and serves the people of the party over there. By his simple helping nature he claimed a popular face in the party disturbing the place of Zoya. Zoya was angry that the person who was behind the death of Jasjeet is now also taking his place in the party.
Kundan on the other hand wanted Zoya to forgive him. The Chief Minister suggested Zoya to take revenge from Kundan for the death of her beloved and plans with her to let Kundan get injuries when he would deliver his campaign speech. As per the plan, Kundan gets hurt badly and is immediately sent to the ICU.
Zoya now started realising her mistake and also the love of Kundan for her. She in après meet admits that the plan of his injury was made by her and Chief Minister. Later through a policeman she finds out that Kundan was aware of the plan yet he let himself be injured. Shocked by the news Zoya rushed to the hospital to meet him but she was too late. Kundan dies.
