About Kolkata Metro
Kolkata Metro is one of the biggest Metro Railway Network in India. Many peoples are traveling by these Metro rails regularly. After our country India got the freedom the transporting facility of Kolkata was very bad means there is no such transport facility for the common peoples. So the government of West Bengal arranged some city plans to avoid such problems in Transporting. After that plan the Metropolitan Transport Project or which is commonly known as Railways was established in the year 1973. This project was a huge Rapid Transit System. In the year 1971 the MTP of Railway designed the master plan to solve the transporting problem in Kolkata. The route designed for this project was about 98 kms. The first route made from Dum Dum to Mahanayak Uttam Kumar which is known as Tollygunge now whose distance was about 17 km long. The work was started on 1st June in the year 1972. This project was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of that time Indira Gandhi on 29th December 1972. But due to the time problem the work was actually started in the year 1995 and the full service was started from 7th October 2010.
