Mutton Curry cooked in Bengali Style


Mutton Curry is one of the authentic dishes of Bengal and is a well-known one also. It goes well with hot rice or rumali rotis. This recipe is cooked almost in every Bengali household. Ingredients required for preparing this Mutton Curry



1 Kg Mutton (cut into medium sized pieces)
4 Medium sized Potatoes 2 tablespoon Onion Paste
2 tablespoon Ginger garlic paste
2 tablespoon turmeric powder
1 tablespoon red chilli powder
1 tablespoon Cumin Powder
2 tablespoon Mustard oil
Salt as per taste

Method of preparing Mutton Curry



Wash the pieces of mutton properly and add 1tablespoon turmeric powder and a pinch of salt and ½ tablespoon oil. Mix it properly and marinate covered for one hour.
Now cut the potatoes into six cubes like pieces.
Heat oil in a frying pan and when smoke comes out of it add the potato cubes to it.
Fry the potato pieces until they become light brown and keep them aside.
Now in separate frying pan heat oil until smoke comes out of it.
Now add the onion paste and fry it in lower flame until they become light brown in colour.
Now add the ginger garlic paste and fry it for ½ second.
We can sprinkle water from time to time.
Now add the marinated mutton pieces and fry them properly.
Add the red chilli powder and cumin powder one by one and fry them properly.
Add the turmeric powder.
After frying properly add 6 cups of water and add salt according to the taste.
Cover the pan.
Cook on medium heat till the mutton becomes soft.
After done remove it from heat and serve hot with plain rice or rumali rotis.
