Bishnupur is a town in Bankura district of West Bengal. From kolkata it is 132 km. Baluchari sarees and terracotta temples are famous on Bishnupur. It prospered in the 17th century. Then it was ruled by Hindu Rajas of Malla dynasty. It has perhaps the most brilliant terracotta work in Eastern India.
From the time of King Raghunath (694 AD), the history of Bisnopur can be traced back. This place named 'Bishnupur' from the God 'Vishnu'.

How to reach Bishnupur from Kolkata :


Bishnupur about 132 km from Kolkata. Bishnupur can be reached both by train and by bus. There is regular bases from Howarh and Kolkata to Bishnupur. By bus it is only 5 hour.

• By train : Here a time table of trains, for go to Bishnupur from Kolkata.
(1) Rupasibangla Express, departure from Howarh at 06:00 am and arrival on Bishnupur at 09:43 pm.
(2) Aranyak Express, departure from Santragachi at 07:56 am and arrival on Bishnupur at 11:13 am.
(3) Hwh Prr, departure from Howrah at 04:50 pm and arrival on Bishnupur station at 05:04 pm.
(4) Hwh Ckp Pas, departure from Howrah at 11:05 pm and arrival on Bishnupur station at 03:33 pm.

• By bus : CSTC & SBSTC buses are regularly ply between Dharmatalabus stand of Kolkata to Bishnupur.

• By road : At first come to Dankuni from Kolkata. Then take the Durgapur express way. At Ratnapur crossing turn left. Then take the Sheoraphuli - Tarakeswar road. From Tarakeswar go to Arambagh. Then go to Bishnupur.

Bishnupur famous for many ancient temple and many creation by Malla Raja. Some of them,

Rasmancha :
This is pavilion. This is used for housing the idols odd Lord Krishna from other temple during the Rash Festival. This pavilion was built in 1600 AD by King Veer Hambir. This is the oldest brick temple in Bishnupur. This was shaped as an elongated pyramidal tower surrounded by hut-shaped turrents.Rasmancha on bisnupur.

Jorebangla Temple of Keshto Rai :
This temple resembles two attached huts joined togather. Surmounted by a single tower. This temple was built in 1658 AD by the King Raghunath Singha.

Pancha Ratna Temple of Shyam Rai :
This is also a famous temple on Bishnupur. This temple was built by King Raghunath Singha in 1643 AD. This is the most intricate sculptural details amongst all the temple of Bishnupur.

Madanmohan Temple :
This temple is in the Sankhari para, outside front compound by the king Durjana Singha Dev. This temple was built in 1694 AD. In the wall of this temple there are many impressive scene from the Ramayana, Mahabharata & Puranas.

Lal Bandh, Krishna Bandh & Poka Bandh :
In Bishnupur, there is some largest tanks that offers good sightseeing. This three tanks were built by the Malla Kings around 17th and 18th centuries. To provide water among the villagers an also protect the town from enemy attack, this thanks were built.

Bishnupur Mela :
The 'Poush Mela' is also known as the Bishnupur Mela. This festival held every year around the last week of December near Madanmohan Temple. Recent addition is 'Bishnupur Utsav'. This is a music and dance festival in recognition of the 'Bishnupur Gharana' in music.
