World famous Sand Sculpturist Sudarsan Pattnaik was born on 15th April 1977 in Puri, the holiest city of Odisha. Born in a very poor family, most part of his early life was passed in the Sea beach of Puri by playing with sands. While playing with sands, he has developed the art of making small sculptures. One day his fascination with the sand has made him the world famous sand artist. He has neither learned it in any school nor from a teacher. He has developed it of his own only by practice and creative ideas. He has revived the Seventh Century old Sand Art and captured the global attention.
By way of his art, he has tried to represent the current global issues, concerns besides culture like Global Warming, AIDS etc. So far he has designed hundreds of sculptures. He has captured most renowned personalities of the world in his sculptures like Obama, Michael Jackson and many others. He has considered art as a service and tried to spread the message of world brotherhood, peace and love through his art. He has demonstrated his art in many competitions held in different countries likes of US, Holland, China, Japan, UK, Singapore etc. Wherever he went, he has been applauded from the art lovers. He has took part in more than 35 international sculpture championships and won awards for his country. The 15 feet Santa Clause sculpture made by him was the tallest ever Santa Clause in the world books. Sudarsan won the People's Choice Award at the 1st Moscow International Sand Sculpture Championship held in Russia.
Sudarsan's ultimate aim to popularize the Seventh Century art among the people and try to attract more and more youngsters towards it. He has got success in this regard. Now many students are working under him. He established "The Golden Sand Art Institute" at Puri which is first of its nature in India.
Besides an Artist, he is also an ardent devotee of Lord Jagannath and a humble human being. Through his art he has made name Odisha proud not only in India but also in abroad. He is truly an icon and a worthy son of Odisha.
