Late Ajitananda Mahapatra, was niece of our former chief minister Late Biju Patanaik and cousin of present Chief Minister Sri Naveen Patanik. He was born on September 4, 1939. He was eldest son of the family. His father Late Brahmananda and mother Late Sukruthi played a major role for his development, he wrote such information in his book "Foot step of a Leader". After completing his high school and college study he moved for Engineering. He was one of the students of the first batch of Burla Engineering College. After completing his Engineering he moved to England and Germany to get higher education and returned back to Odisha again. Then he joined his uncles company, Kalinga Tubes as a director and become a successful director with in a limited period. He was very ambitious person and would not be satisfied by the job and moved to establishment of his own industry. Achievements of Ajitananda Mahapatra:
He resigned from his post and established "Kalinga Engineers Limited" at Paradip port in 1978. He planned to develop the conditions of Oidsha people and recruited only Odia people in his industry. Because of production of high quality engine spares former President of India Gnyani Jail Singh awarded his as most successful industrialist of Odisha in 1985. He worked as a member of Planning Commission of Odisha for five years from 1990 to 1995. Not only had this but also he served as a President of Odisha State Productivity Council for more than 30 years. Even he associated with many organizations of Odisha. He worked as President of Uttkala Banika Sangha, worked as a Director of Lifra India and he was the founder of India Vision. In December 2011 he was awarded with IJU award by Union of Working Journalists of Odisha.
Final Day of Ajitananda Mahapatra:
It was January 2, 2012. Late Ajit was busy with the scientists who were come Odisha to participate in 99th Indian Science Congress. Suddenly he felt pain in his chest. Immediately he called his wife Preeti Mahapatro and brother Jagadananda and moved towards Care Hospital. The doctors tried their best but failed to save his life.
Odisha lost one of its greatest industrialist who dreamed for a developed Odisha in developed India.
