Biography of the great Kabisamrat Upendra Bhanja
In this article I have explained about, the great odiya poet popularly known as Kabisamrat,His biography, all about his article and poet, how he started to writing the poems and what a reader finds in his article.
Kabisamrat Upendra Bhanja's genius is well-recognised. He is acknowledged as the father of Odiya Kavya Litreture. Within the discipline of his Poetry he invests great variety of range and love experience, unique in Odiya poetry. Indeed, his richly ornate poetry is studded with lavish smiles and metaphors. And some of the smiles have the power and vitality of metaphors. His songs are composed within the restrained form of specific ragas, but they are the culmination of a great tradition of ragas. Moreover, Bhanja's talent lies in his erudition, melodious poetry and rich exuberance of youthful love in its rich luxuriance and vigour. Bhanja's concreteness is almost Keatsian yet the metaphorical import of his poetry has not been fully realized. His poetry is turned as obscure because of our inadequate understanding of his blending of the profane love and sacred love. A holistic approach to Bhanj's poetry is immensely rewarding.
Upendra Bhanja's was born on the royal family of Raja Ghumshar at Khruda in the year of 1685. Fortune smiled on him. But his innate genius all the more manifests right from the childhood. He had early education under the guidance of his father Dhananjaya Bhanjaa, an eminent scholar in Sanskrit. Upendra Bhanja started poems unparalleled in musical rhythms and lavish play of figures of speech. He became an accomplished master of Odiya language and exploited the fascinating resources of its vital soul, throbbing with the warmth of emotional life of his character.
Bhanja's monumental work Baidehisa Bilas is an amazing recreation of the story of The Ramayana. And his artistic perfection is reinforced in Labanyabati and Kotibramhandasundari. Bhanja's frank and exuberant eroticism would make a modern reader ponder over his actual merit. But a discerning reader will find nothing pornographic within the context of the tradition in which pornographic was writing.
Pornographic love poetry has an elusive and luxurious quality. Through the magic of words he reconstructs the myth of ancient scriptures through the rich emotional life of the lover's world. Bhanja has left behind nearly seventy Kavyas.
Bhanja's devotional to poetry is exemplary in the annals of Odiya literature. Indeed, most of his poems belong to his youthful endeavour as a poet. Recent scholars are trying to make revaluation of Bhanja's extrtaordinary genus.
